EMAF: proGrow's IoT Experience through beer and coffee 4.0

Tiago Abreu

Product Owner

After another edition of EMAF, we are excited (and not just because of the caffeine) to share our experiences with everyone who stopped by our booth!

EMAF is the biggest event in the industrial sector in Portugal, focusing on the internationalization of technologies, industry innovation and the sharing of specialized technical knowledge. In these four days, we had the opportunity to present our state-of-the-art IoT connectivity and data analytics platform, transforming the way frontline operations work in the industry.

But we didn't just give talks or distribute brochures; we brought the unique concept of connecting our platform with...drumroll please... a coffee machine and a beer machine!

That's right! Two of our most-loved machines in our everyday lives turned into examples of how proGrow digitalizes industrial machinery. The data was crunched and presented in real-time on our platform, tracking the beer and coffee consumption at our stand during the event. It was fun, engaging, and best of all, informative.

Now, let’s talk about what happened when we started brewing data. On our platform's dashboard, we displayed the shop floor KPIs and the status of several machines, including the beer and coffee machines. The real-time dashboards and automatic alerts helped us demonstrate how quickly information can spread and decisions can be data-driven with proGrow.

Global-View in Real Time

Throughout the event, we observed an interesting trend: total consumption of both coffee and beer was roughly equal at around 100 each. This was the sweet spot where the energy-boosting properties of coffee met the relaxing vibes of beer.

Comparison Quantity by machine

Diving deeper, we analyzed the consumption pattern of our faithful liquid companions. As expected, nobody drinks beer in the morning. It looks like our visitors preferred their morning pick-me-up in the form of coffee. But once the clock hit 16:00, the beer machine was a star! The late Friday afternoon saw a particularly high demand for beer - everyone wanted to celebrate the end of a successful week at EMAF.

On the other hand, coffee consumption was distributed more evenly throughout the day, with Shift 2 being the expected period of greatest activity as it contained most of the fair's opening hours. A notable peak nevertheless occurred in Turn 3, after 4 pm on Friday and Saturday. Perhaps the beer drinkers needed a little pick-me-up to continue networking?

Quantities of coffee produced per Shift

Now here's a fun fact: we noticed a few brave souls had even sampled some beers in the afternoon before the event (we promise we won't tell)!

Quantities of beers produced the day before the EMAF

But not to worry, they followed it up with a few coffees to keep things balanced.

All this was made possible by our proGrow platform. With dedicated workflows, continuous improvement tools, and automatic data collection, we showed that we could manage even a beer and coffee stand effectively and efficiently. We demonstrated how proGrow transforms data into valuable insights, promoting data-driven decisions and optimizing production processes.

That’s what proGrow is all about. No matter how small or big your operations are, proGrow helps you keep track, control and improve your operations. It's all about producing more with less, combating everyday emergencies, and focusing on continuous improvements.

And remember, whether you're serving coffee, beer, or managing an entire shop floor – proGrow is always here, ready to brew success in your operations.

Until next time EMAF, keep producing more with less!
